ARCHIVED: Easter Perspective

Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem… Luke 9:51

Easter is a special time for those of us who have placed our faith in Christ. It is the time we reflect on a horrific act that led to a glorious result. I am awestruck with the resurrection. Without it, our faith is empty (1 Cor. 15:14). But I am just as awestruck by the cross. It is difficult to understand the brutality of Christ’s death on that cross. It’s easier to picture it after movies such as The Passion of the Christ, but even that is but a shadow of the darkness Christ endured on the cross as His Father turned His back on His only Son, not because of anything He had done, but for what I have done, am doing and will do. That’s the part of Easter that always gets me: a perfect, sinless God willingly and obediently enduring an incredibly brutal, undeserved death and being forsaken by His Father to take on my sin so that I could spend eternity in His presence. I can’t comprehend that act, but it does allow me to see the length to which my Savior will go to save me. How can I respond with anything other than my own life?

Without the resurrection, we have no Christianity. Without the cross, we have no perspective.

I pray you and your family have a blessed and wonderful Easter.
