Did you know that Christians can have fun? In our society where fun is defined by having parties and drinking, the majority think that Christians are stiff and never have fun. In reality, being a Christian means celebration and joy here on earth and in heaven after.
What is fun? In the American Heritage College Dictionary, fun is defined as: “a source of enjoyment, amusement, or pleasure.” There are many places in the Bible that talk about joy and celebrations. The Jews celebrated the Exodus from Egypt. Jesus turned water into wine at a wedding celebration. Ecclesiastes 3:4 says, “There is a time to cry and a time to laugh. There is a time to be sad and a time to dance with joy.” I believe with God as their guide, He meant for Christians to celebrate and have fun.
The things that we enjoy and that give us pleasure are things we as individuals find as fun. Since people find different things enjoyable, what one person considers as fun may not be fun for the next person. For example, I imagine that there are people who think that it is fun to go fishing for sharks, but that is something that I would not find fun at all! Some people might think that it would be fun to climb Mt. Everest and some think that is just plain crazy!
God provides us everything that we need to nurture our bodies. The Bible tells us in 1 Timothy 6:17 “ . . . but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” God takes pleasure when we enjoy ourselves.
God wants everyone to have fun and celebrate the creation that surrounds us, celebration lifts our spirits. He wants Christian children, teens, and adults alike to enjoy life. Do Christians have fun? Of course Christians have fun!
